What are the basic Elements of Design?
-Color
-Line
-Shape
-Texture
-Space

Color
Color is the hue, value, and intensity that defines parts and sets off one area of design from another.

-Hue is the name of the color (red, blue).
-Value is how light or dark the color is (light blue, navy blue).
-Intensity is how bright or dull it is (4-H green, neon green).

The colors you use are the most critical element in our design choice. We have heard it over and over again, but it is true; color represents Emotion. Try arranging primary colors (red, blue, and yellow) with secondary colors between them. Sometimes this is referred to as "Color Wheel".

Color Wheel
If you want excitement to rush through in your design, then I recommend you using complimentary colors on the other side of the color wheel to create this sensation. Use this colors for accessories. Ask us about using color to enhance psychological responses, use these rules of thumb:
Red
Blue
Green
Yellow
Danger and/or passion
Serenity (sky)
Nature (leaves)
Prosperity (Sun)
When can demonstrate through design ideas just how to create the mood of your choice.

Line (Draw a pretty, unique line)
Think of lines when creating your design ideas and focus on where you want your visitors to look when entering your room. Lines are the edge - where two shapes meet, so remember this when you are choosing furniture, selecting color, and deciding on space options. Lines should not be a part of your design options, but rather a means for being functional to highlight your design idea. Through the use of lines, try to direct attention to your most critical displays. Lines can show direction, draw your attention, outline an object, divide a space, and even communicate feelings. In addition, lines can be straight, curved, diagonal, thick, thin, horizontal or vertical. Do not try to line everything up in your room as this will create a sense of sterility.

Shape (Display Different Shapes)
Determining Shape is critical. When determining how to arrange your furniture, always remember to arrange the shapes by size and shape in order to form a more interesting shape that your visitors will notice. Always relate the shape that you have created to your overall design. Do not over do it by using too many shapes.

Texture
Texture refers to the visual appearance you are trying to create. It is how something feels when it is touched or how it “looks like” it will feel if touched. Think in terms of rough, soft, smooth, cool or warm. This can make a dramatic effect on your design choices. Be consistent with your choice of texture to avoid overwhelming the room with various textures. Begin the design choices by thinking of what textures you like and want the room to have.

Space
Just remember – Depth and Dimension. Use your space wisely and be careful in how you place things in your space. Space will add excitement and interest to your design ideas if used wisely.
